The eleventh UK F2 workshop was held on Friday and Saturday 16-17 May 2025. Two people were unable to attend but I was able to find replacements for them, so I refunded their money. The 6 attendees were from the UK (four), Germany and France.
The attendee from France arrived with a campervan a day earlier to collect the workshop book. I took the opportunity use his campervan to take all the course materials to the church in one trip, instead of two trips using my car, at the evening before the workshop. He also helped me to set up the tables, and at the end of the workshop use his campervan to take everything back to my house. I was very grateful to him, as he saved me a lot time and energy.
As before, I instructed the attendees to follow the course book by themselves, and I helped them whenever they encountered problems. Everybody did relatively well. However, I noted some improvements and additions are needed in the workshop book.
At the end of the workshop, everybody helped me to pack things up, which was greatly appreciated.
After the workshop, three of us went to the regular local Chinese restaurant at 6.00pm for the end of course meal, which we greatly enjoyed.
Feedbacks from the attendees :
It was a fantastic workshop.
On the whole the book is fantastic, and having the book to read the evening before was very useful. My only suggestion would be to maybe include some footnotes or cross references as there are a lot of pages to flick through to find small details.
It really was a unique opportunity and privilege to learn how to repair an F2 under the tuition of someone with such an exhaustive knowledge of the camera.
I was very apprehensive before attending the workshop as I have never done anything like this before, but the course book really was a foolproof guide, provided that we worked through it step by step as you instructed! Having your knowledge in hand to fall back on when we were stuck also helped of course!
I am enjoying using my newly serviced F2. I would highly recommend the workshop to anyone with even the slightest interest in repairing mechanical cameras. I will definitely be buying a copy of the finished version of the book when it appears!
