UK F2 workshop May 2026
The Thirteenth UK F2 workshop was held on Friday and Saturday 15-16 May 2026. There were five cancellations, but I was able to replace them from later bookings, plus one extra. The 7 attendees were from the UK (three, 1 repeat), USA (two) and Netherlands (repeat).

One attendee came at 7pm on Thursday 14 May to help me to set up the tables, and I finished setting up everything by 9.30pm.

On Friday 15 May, I instructed the attendees to follow the course book by themselves as previous workshops, and I helped them whenever they encountered problems. A repeat attendee did not follow the course book as he only wanted to learn how to service finders, so I guided him between helping other attendees.

The first day was slower than usual, and nobody finished lubricating their cameras by 6pm (which normally finished at 5.30pm the latest), so we commenced at 8.30am on the second day. The second day was also a little slower as there were problematic cameras that needed their bad slow shutter speeds and shutter speeds selector mechanisms replaced with good ones. Everybody did relatively well. However, I noted some improvements and additions are needed in the course book.

The attendees completed their cameras by 4.30pm, and they helped me to pack everything up by 6pm, which I greatly appreciated.

After the workshop, six of us went to the regular local Chinese restaurant for the end of course meal, which we enjoyed very much because the food was good and we learnt we have similar interests beside cameras.

Feedbacks from the attendees :

Participants might be invited to remove the camera foam from the camera back, mirror and rear channels before the course.

Suggest attendees to remove the foam beforehand to save some time during the workshop. I appreciate there’s a chance people may not do it perfectly unsupervised, but personally I found the foam removal one of the more tedious parts.

Key instructions or warnings could be highlighted more clearly or instruct people to read an entire section/block before starting the steps, rather than progressing line by line.

Towards the end of the notebook during re-assembly the guide becomes quite text heavy, re-including visuals of the specific places screws return or re-referencing the images from earlier in the notebook where disassembly instructions were may help people who learn more visually.

Thanks again for running the course and I might be interested in a refresher opportunity in a year or two. I had a very interesting couple of days.

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learned a huge amount along the way. I’m fairly certain this won’t be the last F2 I try to bring back to life.
